7 Points Regarding CB Radio August 9, 2010 No Comments

In contrast to tv or over the air radio waves, using a cb radio we have the ability to reply. Always intended for short range communications, Cb radio has always fended off the trials of time and technological advancement.

1. Licensing. Unlike CB Radio users in the UK and Europe, CB users in the USA do not need a license. CB Radio is regulated by the FCC inside the USA and you are required to have a copy of the applicable rules. In the US cb radio uses Am frequencies. The European CB Radio operates on FM frequencies.

2. ‘Rig’ setups.  CB radio sets come in three possible types. These are CB Base Station ,mobile in-vehicle units and Handheld CB Radios. Handheld CB Radio units can be very useful, but usually have more limited range than in-vehicle or base station radios, this is partly because they are lower power, and partly because they have much shorter antennae.

3. Call Signs. There are no official call signs in the USA, though there are in other countries such as the UK. US CB users are identified by self-designated ‘handles’.

4. CB Channels. CB Radio useres currently have 40 standard channels in the US. Channel 9 is regulated to be the emergency channel, it is reccomended to avoid channel 8 and 10 to allow channel 9 to come through loud and clear.

5. Squelch. The squelch dial can help eliminate background noise. If you tune your squelch a little you can eliminate irritations noises. You should be able to hear someone trying to break through.

6. Long Distance. CB radio communication is only consistent over relatively short ranges. When atmospheric conditions are right, CB signals are the right wavelength to bounce off the ionosphere and as a result it is sometimes possible to hear conversations from hundreds or even thousands of miles away. If you are chatting with someone far away be careful. Current US law prohibits communicating via CB radio from a range of over 150 miles.

7. Cb radios can be useful in lots of situations, not just when travelling or communicating from a vehicle to a home base. You can setup a base station to run on alternative sources of power so that you can maintain a vital source of communications during times of need.

The ability to meet new people will probably continue to keep cb radio alive despite the threat of advancing technology. The beauty of cb radio is it allows communication even in isolated areas to break up the monotony.

With the optional cable (CD-IU230V) connected to your iPod, you will notice how easily you can find songs, videos, artists, or playlists with a few simple taps of your finger. The AVIC-X920BT also features voice-activated control of your iPod. It is so amazing you can simply say the name of an artist, album, playlist, or genre to bring up the next song.

Overall an excellent upgrade from the f series I had. Every feature has been improved, upgraded or at least kept. I love the faster start up time. and the 100 percent better use of screen space and physical button layout. Also the quick select buttons for the source along the left is excellent and makes a lot of sense and its much easier to use. I can’t get over how amazing the new 3d drag to scroll and move things around is. It really makes any other unit i’ve seen on the market look dated by comparison.
